Nigerian International Secondary Schools Model United Nations (NISSMUN) Conference for Senior Secondary School Students
Nigerian International Secondary Schools Model United Nations (NISSMUN) is one of the prestigious Model United Nations conferences in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Our experiential learning programs provide a diverse group of informed Senior Secondary Schools within the six-geopolitical zones of Nigeria and some secondary schools from the West African sub-region to a forum for purpose of addressing global concerns in a real world context. The conference fosters global citizenship and addresses current world issues related to regional conflicts, peacekeeping, human rights, women and children, economic and social development, and the environment. We strive to provide students with a better understanding of the inner working of the UN and to foster skills in diplomacy and compromise.
NISSMUN is a valuable resource to help students develop effective negotiation, team work, critical thinking, communication skills and form solutions. The programme broadens a student’s perspective on a variety of international topics and the students develop the leadership, organizational, creative, and personal skills that will be useful for their career.
Students at the conference learn to face and overcome challenges, to respect the view point of rivals, to separate the person from the problem, to face disappointment with the determination to do better next time and to experience the joy of achievement. At the end of the conference, each student is changed having learnt more about himself, gained confidence from some endeavours and discovered previously unrecognized potential. The benefit to the student, school and society are great.
