I warmly welcome you all. Your presence reflects a shared commitment to raising informed, responsible, and actively engaged young citizens. This year’s theme, “Reconnecting Young Citizens with Governance in the Age of Misinformation,” speaks to a real and urgent challenge—the growing disconnect between young people and public institutions, often worsened by the spread of inaccurate and misleading information.

At NITIMUN 2026, we believe young people should not only understand governance but also play an active role in shaping it. This conference is designed to give you the space to think deeply, ask the right questions, and contribute meaningfully to important conversations.

In committee sessions, you are expected to come prepared, think critically, and engage respectfully with others. Represent your assigned country with accuracy and integrity, participate in structured debates, and work collaboratively to develop practical, solution-driven resolutions. Your ability to verify information, communicate clearly, and negotiate effectively will be key.

During plenary sessions, the level of engagement rises even higher. You will present and defend your committee’s resolutions, respond to questions, and take part in decision-making processes that reflect true diplomacy and consensus-building. Confidence, clarity, and a solid understanding of both your topic and procedure will set you apart.

Beyond the formal sessions, NITIMUN offers a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded peers, build leadership skills, and broaden your understanding of global governance. I encourage you to make the most of this experience—participate actively, carry yourself with integrity, and strive to be a bridge between citizens and institutions in your communities.

Once again, welcome to NITIMUN 2026. I look forward to the ideas you will share, the solutions you will champion, and the impact you will make.
