It is my pleasure, as Secretary-General, to welcome you to NITIMUN 2026.
To our delegates and all visitors, thank you for being part of this journey. Your interest in NITIMUN reflects a shared belief that young people are not just observers of governance, but active contributors to it. This year’s theme, “Reconnecting Young Citizens with Governance in the Age of Misinformation,” speaks directly to the times we live in—where information is everywhere, but trust is often lacking, and where young voices must stand out with clarity, knowledge, and purpose.
NITIMUN is designed with tertiary institution students in mind. It goes beyond theory, offering a practical space where what you learn in class meets real-world application. Here, you will engage deeply with pressing global and national issues, sharpen your analytical thinking, and develop practical skills in diplomacy, negotiation, research, and public speaking. It is a space to challenge yourself, refine your ideas, and grow as a leader.
As a delegate, you are expected to bring depth, preparation, and professionalism into every committee session. Your contributions should reflect solid research, critical thinking, and a clear understanding of your assigned country’s position. Engage actively, respect diverse perspectives, and work collaboratively with others to develop realistic and solution-driven resolutions.
Plenary sessions will allow you to take your ideas to a broader stage. Here, confidence, clarity, and persuasive communication are key. You will be expected to defend your positions, think on your feet, and contribute meaningfully to collective decision-making, all while upholding the principles of diplomacy and respect.
Beyond the formal sessions, NITIMUN offers something just as valuable—the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, exchange ideas, and build networks that extend beyond the conference. It is a chance to broaden your perspective and strengthen your capacity for leadership and civic engagement.
As you take part in this experience, I encourage you to be intentional—participate actively, think critically, and carry yourselves with integrity. The conversations you have here matter, and the ideas you shape can influence how we understand governance and civic responsibility.
In preparation for the conference, this is our moment to rethink perspectives, reconnect with governance, and redefine the role of young citizens in shaping the future.
Thank you.
Chelsea Ike
