On behalf of the General Assembly, it is my honour to warmly welcome our distinguished delegates, esteemed parents, dedicated teachers, valued partners, and all visitors. Your presence here reflects a shared belief in the power of young people to shape a more transparent, accountable, and inclusive future. This year’s theme, “Rebuilding Youth Trust in Governance in an Era of Misinformation,” speaks to a critical global concern about how trust in institutions can be restored in a time when misinformation so easily influences perception and public discourse.

At LARSSMUN 2026, delegates are expected to approach this challenge with intellectual curiosity, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility. In committee sessions, you will engage in rigorous, research-driven debates, representing your assigned countries with accuracy and diplomacy. You are encouraged to listen attentively, respect differing viewpoints, and collaborate in drafting resolutions that are both realistic and solution-oriented. Your ability to distinguish credible information from misinformation will be central to the quality of your contributions.

During plenary sessions, delegates will be expected to demonstrate confidence, clarity, and depth of understanding. The committee session serves as the platform for testing, refining, and adopting ideas through constructive dialogue and consensus-building. Your participation should reflect not only strong public speaking skills but also respect for procedure, decorum, and the collective goal of meaningful outcomes.

Beyond formal sessions, LARSSMUN offers a unique opportunity to grow as leaders, build lasting connections, and develop skills that extend far beyond the conference. I encourage every delegate to make the most of this experience—engage fully, think critically, and contribute positively to the shared vision of rebuilding trust between young people and governance structures.

As we look forward to the conference, I am excited about the ideas, discussions, and solutions that will emerge from your participation.

Thank you.

Humphrey Okpara
President of the General Assembly, LARSSMUN 2026.
