It is with great pleasure and warmest regards that I welcome you to the homepage of the Nigeria Model United Nations Society. I hope that you will enjoy browsing our website, finding more options and information each time, and that it will be yet another tool for building the capacity of young people.
I would like to specially welcome guests visiting our website for the first time. I hope you will have a fruitful and memorable time in this academic journey to our organization, NigMUNS. Our conferences – NISSMUN and NITIMUN (formerly NIGIMUN) for secondary and tertiary institutions respectively provide young people with a veritable platform to network and interact with each other and share thoughts, experience and aspirations about Model United Nations and issues of global concern. I am glad to inform that the inaugural Lagos Regional Secondary Schools Model United Nations (LARSSMUN) Conference, took place at the Golden Tulip Hotel Festac Lagos, from the 7 – 11 November, 2015holding and we are so excited about the commencement of the regional programme.
That’s not all, two new conferences, SERSSMUN – South East Regional Secondary Schools Model United Nations and JUNSIMUN – Junior Schools International Model United Nations, for South East Region and Junior Schools respectively will hold in 2016. And the big one – NIGIMUN for tertiary schools has been renamed NITIMUN, Nigerian International Tertiary Institutions Model United Nations.
Nigeria Model United Nations Society founded in 2004 prides itself as the founder of the Model United Nations culture in Nigeria and I am humbled by what we have achieved so far in an extremely difficult circumstances. Our programmes have attracted high profile guests that included Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’adua, former First Lady, Hajiya Turai Yar’adua, wife of Fmr. Vice President, Hajiya Amina Namadi Sambo, Senator David Mark, President of the Senate, Hajia Amina Mohammed, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Fmr Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and currently, the Emir of Kano and Dr. Zainab Shinkafi – Bagudu, wife of the Kebbi State Governor.
Participation in a MUN can be a very exciting, yet a challenging experience. The student ambassadors are confronted with the need to set aside their personal opinion and take up the official policy of the country they have chosen to represent. This can be very difficult when discussing controversial topics or when the discussion becomes very heated. They are faced with the very difficult dilemma of choosing their country’s position, or being part of an international cooperation.
However, the result of a Model United Nations experience is students who are more mature individuals, more aware of the world around them and more empowered to make meaningful contributions in their homes, schools and communities. It is therefore my hope that our esteemed ambassadors will always attain excellence in their academic pursuit, eminence in moral upbringing and good citizenry wherever they find themselves.
The 2016 programme schedule comes at a historically significant moment with the 11th anniversary of our organization – Nigeria Model United Nations Society and the 102 years celebration of our dear country, Nigeria. Our dedication remains unparalleled and commitment next to none.
Young people are valuable resources who can take active roles in addressing issues that affect their lives, their communities and the world. Education to foster a culture of peace that upholds justice and tolerance for all peoples and nations is essential to attaining lasting peace and it should begin at an early age. It should include elements of conflict resolution, mediation, reduction of prejudice and respect for diversity. Whether we realize it or not, the choices that we make today may continue to have an effect tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, and into the future.
To our participating schools; I look forward with excitement to the fresh ideas that your students will bring to our conferences. I am confident that the 2016 edition of NISSMUN, LARSSMUN, SERSSMUN, JUNSIMUN and NITIMUN Conferences will be a fertile ground for many innovative ideas to be exchanged, challenged and developed.
Regards,
Chika Nwaozuzu
Chairman, Governing Council

The growth of NigMUNS is marvelous, Impacting into young people the courage to stand out and exposing their minds to the appropriate means of tackling real world issues. This 12 year old society has done more than expected especially in grooming true leaders of Nigeria. Am prevelaged to be a former Sec Gen, and always be prepared for another opportunity to serve.
Thank you
